• GIS Engineering Technician

    The Geographic Information Systems Technician plays a key role in ensuring the safety of our system. Their primary job function will be to assist in a multitude of GIS, Engineering and Construction projects. This includes working in an office environment, as well as field work on construction sites. 

     WHAT ARE THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION?

    • Develop, maintain, and improve electronic records.
    • Perform data management and mapping tasks utilizing GIS and CAD technologies.
    • Preform GPS field data collection.
    • QA/QC of Existing GIS databases.
    • Map production.
    • Web Map generation and maintenance. 
    • Assist coworkers with GIS questions and mapping requests.
    • Train end users in GIS and GPS data collection.
     WHAT ARE THE REQUIRED SKILLS FOR THIS ROLE?
    • Experience using ArcGIS Pro Software.
    • Ability to understand and interpret old schematic maps, hand drawings, CAD files, and legacy records and translate them into usable GIS data. 
    • Must be willing to work in a dynamic team environment.
    • Experience with GIS mobile technologies: ArcGIS Online, ESRI Field Maps, Survey 123, ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Dashboards, Google Earth (KMZ/KML).
    • Experiencing managing and building databases a plus.
    • Comfort using Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to work outdoors in various terrains and weather conditions including active construction sites.
    • Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.
    • Ability to troubleshoot GPS hardware and software and find creative solutions.
    • Possess good communication skills and ability to work in an office environment.
    • Ability to or learn how to locate underground utilities.
    • Experience developing in Python with ESRI or other GIS toolsets a plus.
     These skills are normally acquired through coursework in GIS/geography, data science, information technology or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Technical experience in engineering, mapping, drafting, construction supervision, math and knowledge of general construction principles desired. Experience in the gas, utility and/or construction industry preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

    Salary Range:
    $28.85 To $36.06 Hourly

     PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK CONDITIONS:

    During the summer months will continuously walk/stand.  During the winter months will continuously sit.   Frequently works on computer.
    Frequently required to drive, use both hands for simple grasping, and work outdoors with occasional exposure to weather conditions.
    Occasionally lift between 10-50 lbs.; push; pull; bend; stoop; and squat.
    Exposure to dust, fumes, gases, chemicals, etc.; walking on uneven ground and subject to hazards.
    Must be willing to travel occasionally.
