• Sustainable Agriculture Instructor

    The Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center (PAHCC) seeks an innovative, creative, and dynamic person to instruct students in Sustainable Agriculture.

    Summary: The instructor will teach Sustainable Agriculture to high school juniors and seniors.

    Job Duties:

    • Teaches Sustainable Agriculture, with a focus on skills that are relevant in today’s workplace.
    • Develops curriculum based on the proficiencies outlined in the Vermont CTE proficiency documents. Topics include, but are not limited to safe operation of compact agriculture equipment, soil/water/nutrient management, livestock anatomy/physiology/nutrition, livestock evaluation/production, meat science, animal domestication/behavior, plant science, greenhouse production/management, business management, communication, center-wide Habits of Work, leadership/teamwork/career development through the FFA, ethics and legal responsibilities.
    • Oversees operations of a small greenhouse and farm.
    • Oversees supervision of the summer farm manager.
    • Forms positive relationships with students and manages a classroom of students.
    • Researches curriculum options and implements curriculum.
    • Collaborates with agriculture instructor colleagues to oversee Middlebury FFA Chapter operations.
    • Stays current with industry trends.
    • Develops lesson plans and organizes daily classes so that demonstration, instruction, and practice can be completed within allotted time.
    • Facilitates a Program Advisory Board of industry experts who give advice about and direction for the program.
    • Forms effective relationships with industry partners.
    • Maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting.
    • Communicates students’ progress to guardians.
    • Participates fully in staff meetings and professional development.
    • Possesses ability to work independently or with a team.
    • Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills.
    • Possesses ability to organize and prioritize tasks, projects, and assignments.
    • Possesses to respond to inquiries or complaints from parents, regulatory agencies, or members of the community in a calm and respectful manner.
    • Maintains enthusiasm for and engagement with students and instruction.
    • Ability to create dynamic student-centered environments of instruction, assessment and differentiation.
    • Competence to rationally and safely resolve conflicts (deescalate) and handle stress.
    • Capable of applying listening skills and responding in a respectful and effective manner.
    • Demonstrates clear written communication skills.
    • Proficient in adapting to changing priorities and differing student needs.
    • Understands the importance of flexibility in adapting to changing circumstances.
    Qualifications:
    • This position requires Agriculture industry experience.
    • Teaching certification is not required, however experience working with youth or young adults is recommended - A person without a teaching certificate would need to do teacher training classes to become licensed over the course of four years.
    • Type 2 Bus endorsement or ability to obtain.

    The start date of this position is July 1, 2025 in order to assist with fundraising activities at Addison County Fair & Field Days.
